12 Days of Pretty Day 10: New Year New You? Achievable New Years Resolutions For Combat Sports

Welcome back to the “12 Days of Pretty” series, Pretty Top Team’s festive celebration of all things combat sports! As we approach the new year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on our progress and set new goals. Today, we’re diving into some positive and achievable New Year’s resolutions tailored for our boxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), and wrestling enthusiasts. Whether you’re a seasoned fighter or just starting out, these resolutions will help you improve your skills and stay motivated throughout the year.

Boxing Resolutions

1. Improve Footwork: Good footwork is crucial in boxing. Resolve to dedicate extra time each week to footwork drills. Practice shadowboxing with an emphasis on movement, and incorporate ladder drills and cone exercises to enhance agility and balance.

2. Master the Jab: The jab is one of the most fundamental and versatile punches in boxing. Set a goal to throw 1000 jabs a week, focusing on speed, accuracy, and technique. This will improve your overall performance and set up other punches effectively.

3. Enhance Conditioning: Boxing demands top-notch conditioning. Incorporate high-intensity interval training (HIIT) into your routine to build endurance and power. Aim for at least three HIIT sessions per week to boost your stamina and explosiveness in the ring.

Muay Thai Resolutions

1. Perfect Your Kicks: Kicking is a cornerstone of Muay Thai. Commit to practicing your kicks daily, focusing on technique and power. Use a heavy bag or pads to perfect your form and increase your kicking speed and accuracy.

2. Develop Clinch Work: The clinch is a vital aspect of Muay Thai that can turn the tide of a fight. Dedicate time to clinch drills, working with a partner to improve your control, balance, and ability to land knees and elbows from the clinch.

3. Increase Flexibility: Flexibility enhances your range of motion and can prevent injuries. Incorporate a consistent stretching routine into your daily practice. Focus on the hips, hamstrings, and shoulders to improve your ability to execute high kicks and other techniques.

BJJ Resolutions

1. Expand Your Game: It’s easy to rely on your favorite techniques, but diversity is key in BJJ. Make it a goal to learn and drill at least one new technique or submission each month. This will broaden your skill set and keep your training fresh and exciting.

2. Improve Positional Awareness: Understanding positional hierarchy is crucial in BJJ. Spend extra time on positional sparring, focusing on maintaining and escaping from dominant positions. This will improve your overall grappling strategy and effectiveness.

3. Strength and Conditioning: BJJ requires a unique blend of strength and endurance. Incorporate functional strength training into your routine, focusing on compound movements like deadlifts, squats, and pull-ups. Aim for two to three strength sessions per week.

Wrestling Resolutions

1. Perfect Your Takedowns: Takedowns are fundamental in wrestling. Commit to drilling takedowns every practice session, emphasizing technique and speed. Practice both offensive and defensive takedowns to become a well-rounded wrestler.

2. Improve Mat Control: Controlling your opponent on the mat is key to success in wrestling. Work on your top control and escapes, spending extra time on drills that enhance your ability to maintain dominant positions and avoid being pinned.

3. Enhance Agility: Wrestling requires quick, explosive movements. Incorporate agility drills like shuttle runs, ladder drills, and plyometrics into your training routine. Aim for at least two agility sessions per week to improve your speed and reaction time.

As we usher in the new year, let’s embrace these resolutions with enthusiasm and determination. At Pretty Top Team, we’re committed to supporting you every step of the way. Whether you’re in the ring, on the mat, or in the gym, these resolutions will help you elevate your game and achieve your goals. Here’s to a year of growth, progress, and triumphs in our combat sports journey. Stay Pretty, and keep fighting strong!

Happy New Year from Pretty Top Team!
