From August 22nd to 25th, the Golden Gloves boxing tournament in Brisbane saw some of the toughest and most talented fighters from across Australia come together to compete for glory. Among them were three standout fighters from Pretty Top Team in Cairns—Marlin Jones, Elisha Robati, and Harvey Stevens—each showcasing the skill, heart, and determination that define our gym.
Day 1 - August 22nd: Marlin Jones
Marlin Jones kicked off the tournament for Pretty Top Team on the 22nd, stepping into the ring for a highly anticipated match. The bout was an intense, closely contested battle over three rounds. Both fighters exchanged heavy blows and displayed impressive skill, but in the end, Marlin came away with a split points loss. While the decision didn’t go his way, Marlin’s performance was nothing short of commendable, proving his mettle in the ring and setting the tone for the rest of the team.
Day 2 - August 23rd: Elisha Robati
The next day, Elisha Robati entered the ring, ready to make his mark in the tournament. Elisha’s fight was a technical showcase, as he and his opponent engaged in a strategic and skillful contest. Despite his best efforts and a strong showing, Elisha came up short on the scorecards. His performance, however, demonstrated the high level of technique and preparation that Pretty Top Team is known for.
Day 3 - August 24th: Harvey Stevens
On the 24th, it was Harvey Stevens’ turn to shine in the semi-finals. Harvey entered the ring with determination and focus, delivering a dominant performance that left no doubt in the judges' minds. He controlled the pace and landed clean, effective shots throughout the bout, securing a well-deserved victory and earning his place in the finals.
Day 4 - August 25th: Harvey Stevens in the Finals
The final day of the tournament saw Harvey Stevens return to the ring for the championship bout. Building on the momentum from his semi-final win, Harvey delivered another commanding performance. He outclassed his opponent with superior technique, power, and ring IQ, ultimately claiming the Golden Gloves championship. This victory not only earned him the prestigious title but also solidified his place as one of the top fighters in his division.
All three fighters—Marlin, Elisha, and Harvey—competed with heart and determination under the expert guidance of Coach Paul Hosking. Their performances throughout the tournament have undoubtedly put Cairns boxing on the map, showcasing the talent and dedication that Pretty Top Team brings to the sport.
