On Saturday, October 12th, Pretty Top Team hosted our much-anticipated SparBQ event, filled with competitive action, community spirit, and all for a great cause. With 100 spectators, over 20 competitors stepping into the ring, we saw more than 40 bouts across Muay Thai and boxing, bringing together fighters, coaches, and fans for an unforgettable day.
Sparring Highlights & Gym Collaboration
We were thrilled to welcome athletes not just from Pretty Top Team but also from several other local gyms, making it a truly collaborative event. Competitors from Fusion Innisfail and Jigsaw Martial Arts joined us for the Muay Thai bouts, while boxers from Evolve Boxing, Freedom Boxing, and Do It Boxing brought their best for the boxing rounds. Each fighter showcased incredible skill, sportsmanship, and determination, making for a day filled with exciting matchups and hard-fought rounds.
Mock Judging & Refereeing
In addition to the sparring action, we offered a fantastic opportunity for aspiring referees and judges to gain practical experience. We organized mock judging and refereeing sessions to help them refine their skills, supervised by Aaron Wellman from Boxing Queensland. This experience will contribute to qualifying more BQ 1-star judges in the FNQ region, further supporting the growth of combat sports in our area.
Fundraising for a Great Cause
The day wasn’t just about the fights—it was also about giving back. We held a raffle, ran a delicious sausage sizzle, and sold refreshments, with all proceeds going toward the Combat Sports Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting combat sports in Far North Queensland. Thanks to the generosity and support of everyone involved, we raised an incredible $3,000!
These funds will be reinvested into the local combat sports scene, supporting seminars and scholarships to help the next generation of fighters and officials grow and thrive.
A Big Thank You
A huge thank you to all the fighters, gyms, volunteers, and spectators who made this event such a success. We’re proud to have hosted a day that celebrated both the sport and the community while supporting combat sports development in FNQ. We can’t wait to do it all again!
